Local genealogy clubs to meet this weekend

Two local genealogy groups will meet this weekend.

The Irish Family History Forum will meet on Saturday at the Bethpage Public Library. The Genealogy Help Session will take place at 10 a.m. and and an Ask the Experts session will take place at 10:45 a.m.

This month’s program will be “Tales of My Irish Mother” presented by Eileen Cronin, host of “The Long Island Ireland Show” on WRHU-FM. She will talk about her Irish mother, Christena Nyhan from County Cork.

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island will meet on Sunday at the Mid Island JCC-Y in Plainview. The Help Session will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 2 p.m.

This month’s program will be “45 Years as a Jewish Genealogist : A Cranky Critique” presented by Arthur Kurzweil. Based on his four and a half decades in the field, Arthur Kurzweil, author of “From Generation to Generation,” will explore the underbelly of the world of Jewish genealogy — our mistakes, our misbehavior, our sins of omission and our sins of commission — and he will offer some strong suggestions for the future.
