Allen County Public Library will present “Using Mortality Schedules in Your Research,” on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 2:30 p.m. We have all experienced trying to locate missing family members who may have died between census years. The federal mortality schedules for 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 reported deaths that occurred from June 1 the previous year up to May 31 of the census years. The Genealogical Society of Rockland County will present “The Insider’s Guide to Genealogical Cousin Bait,” on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7:10 p.m. Want to expand your family tree and connect with cousins? This how-to talk is filled with practical ways to find possible cousins and enable cousins to find you on such websites as FamilySearch, Ancestry, MyHeritage and Findagrave. Learn tips and tricks for locating personal photos, family stories and other unique family history details. See how and where to post “cousin bait” keeping privacy in mind while encouraging relatives to get in touch.

Legacy Family Tree Webinars will present “Finding Genealogical Data in the Chinese Exclusion Act Case Files,” on Wednesday, Sept 16 at 2 p.m. Chinese genealogical research is challenging. Even the names are confusing – a person could have two or three distinctly different names during his lifetime, and possibly an Americanized version. This webinar will give a brief history of the act, tell where the files are located, and how to access them.

Southern California Genealogical Society will present “Putting American to Work: Records of the WPA and CCC” on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 9 p.m. The Works Progress Administration (WPA) was founded as part of President Roosevelt’s New Deal. Providing jobs for over 8.5 million people, they were instrumental in compiling many records that are valuable to genealogists today. Many of the indexes and records we use today were compiled by the WPA.

Florida State Genealogical Society will present “Materials in Digital Libraries for Family History,” on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. Digital libraries have revolutionized the way researchers can access and use materials. Utah Genealogical Association will present “Seafaring Ancestors” on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. Seafaring folk, especially southern ones, are challenging to document. Shipping records do survive for many 18th and 19th century ports. We’ll follow the money to identify mariner ancestors.
