The Georgia Genealogy Society will present “Freedmen’s Bureau Records” on Wednesday, July 25, at 8 p.m. Though an invaluable and rich resource for information on freed slaves, the Freeman’s Bureau Records also cover many other southerners from Delaware to Texas – including ex‐soldiers, impoverished widows, and destitute parents. If your ancestors lived in the south in the immediate post-civil war time period, you will want to learn about these records.

Three free webinars will take place this week covering topics such as finding photos online, how to protect your research and Freeman’s Bureau Records.

The Wisconsin State Genealogy Society will present “50+ Online and Offline Sources for Finding Photos of Your Ancestors” on Tuesday, June 19 at 8 p.m. If you haven’t inherited photos of your ancestors, learn about the 50+ potential sources that you may have overlooked, including printed media, organizations, digital sources and even distant relatives that you may not know about.

The Florida State Genealogical Society will present “Freemen’s Bureau Records” on Thursday, June 21 at 8 p.m. The Freedmen’s Bureau records cover more than freed slaves – they include ex-soldiers, impoverished widows, small children, and destitute parents. Free webinars this week cover digital files, Freedmen’s Bureau Records

The Illinois State Genealogical Society will present “Freedmen’s Bureau Records” tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 9 p.m. The impact of the Civil War was keenly felt by most of those living from Delaware to Texas regardless of race or original circumstances. A common misunderstanding is that this record group only encompasses records of freed slaves. While it does contain records of freedmen, it includes a lot information about ALL impoverished North Carolinians, regardless of race. If a family tree contains confederate soldiers who were wounded or killed in action, their surviving parents, spouses or children might be found listed in these documents as they requested or received rations, were declared destitute, etc.

Your data? Your scanned images? This webinar will cover the importance of taking charge of your own materials and making sure they aren’t going to disappear.
