Several local genealogy groups to meet in December

Several local genealogy societies will be meeting in December.

The Patchogue-Medford Library will be presenting “Preserving Your Past: Home Archiving” on Saturday, December 1 at 10 a.m. Feel free to bring an item – such as a diary, letter or photo – for the presenter to examine and learn how to preserve it.

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island will present “Jewish Given Names” on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Y-JCC in Plainview. The speaker will be Debra Braverman. Jews have distinct given names and naming traditions. This presentation will explain sources of different names and naming patterns based on geographic origin and language.

The Brentwood Public Library will present “Digital Maps and Family History” on Saturday, December 22 at 10 a.m. Learn to create a map of the important locations on your family tree using Google maps.
