Free webinars focus on government documents, ancestral villages

Two free genealogy webinars will take place this week.

Wisconsin State Genealogy Society will present “More Than Just the Census: Federal Government Publications for Genealogical Research” on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. The U.S. Government Printing Office is the largest publisher in the world, giving federal depository libraries in each Congressional District government published books full of personal information and history on our ancestors. This webinar will demonstrate the types of information to be found in books and databases as close as the nearest federal depository library in your Congressional District.

The Southern California Genealogical Society will present “You Located the Ancestral Village of Your Ancestor – Now What?” on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 9 p.m. Now that the ancestral village of your ancestor has been located, how do you find out more information? Explore the next steps overcoming barriers like language and an ocean. Topics will include resources for locating the ancestral village, problems encountered, resources other than archives, translation options, and what to expect in return and how to evaluate.
