Three free genealogy webinars to be offered

Three free genealogy webinars will be offered this week.

The Illinois State Genealogical Society will present “Resources for Applying to a Revolutionary War Lineage Society” on Tuesday, May 8 at 9 p.m. This webinar will introduce attendees to the basic requirements of joining a Revolutionary War lineage society and the sources that can be used to meet them. It will touch upon common sources, such as the census and vital records, as well as less common sources such as pension files, loyalty oaths, and more.

Legacy Family Tree Webinars will present “The Hidden Web: Digging Deeper” on Wednesday, May 9 at 8 p.m. When Google and traditional search engines don’t return useful information, don’t stop there. This webinar will explore resources that are invisible to Google and hidden deep within web sites and proprietary databases. The “hidden web” lies buried within the collections for commercial web sites, libraries, archives, and museums. Also covered in the webinar will be indexes that deep-link into web sites online.

Legacy Family Tree Webinars will also present “A Checklist of African American Resources” on Friday, May 11 at 2 p.m. Beyond the usual databases for census and vital records, this webinar will outline critical collections to find African American families. Using resources from the Schomburg research center to the Smithsonian, this lecture will explore the unknown and lesser known resources for documenting African American families.
