Two local genealogy groups to meet this weekend

Two local genealogy societies will meet this weekend.

The Brentwood Genealogists will meet at the Brentwood Public Library on Sat. April 28 at 10 a.m.

This month’s program will be a webinar with genealogist Melinda Baker entitled “Researching Outside the Family Tree.” Our ancestors did not live in isolation, although we sometimes research them as if they did. Learn how to find information about your ancestors by learning about their neighbors.

For more information, call the library at 631-273-7883.

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island will meet this Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m. at the Y-JCC in Plainview.

This month’s program will be “Finding Relatives with MyHeritage DNA Matching” presented by Daniel Horowitz, chief genealogist of MyHeritage. MyHeritage has developed a new service that enables those who have been tested by different DNA companies to use MyHeritage’s matching capabilities. Daniel will demonstrate how MyHeritage will display possible relationships based on the quantity and characteristics of shared DNA. He will also show how to view a match’s family tree.
