Three local genealogy groups to meet this week

Three local genealogy groups will be meeting this week to discuss enemy aliens, DNA research and locating church records.

The German Genealogy Group will meet on Thursday, Oct. 5 at the V.F.W. in Hicksville. This month’s speaker will be the Legal Genealogist, Judy Russell who will discuss “Martha Benschura – Enemy Alien.”

The presentation focuses on the fact that not all our ancestors were naturalized. The ones who didn’t suddenly became suspect when war divided their native countries from their new residences, creating the kinds of records genealogists’ love.

There will be an orientation at 7 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:30 p.m. For more information, go to the club website at

The DNA Genealogy Group of Long Island will meet on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Bethpage Public Library.
