National Archives to host free workshop

The National Archives at New York City will present a free workshop from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at its offices at the U.S. Custom House in lower Manhattan.

The workshop will be “Making a Federal Case Out of It,” presented by Judy G. Russell, ‘The Legal Genealogist.”

Ms Russell will discuss the importance of federal court records in genealogy research. Even genealogists with a good background in court records often overlook the wealth of detail available in the records of the federal courts: the District Court and the Circuit Court (now Circuit Court of Appeals.) From bankruptcies to copyrights to patent cases in admiralty jurisdiction and more, federal court records merit a close look.

Space is limited so registration is required. To register, email or call 866-840-1752.
