Free genealogy webinars to cover census substitutes, tax lists

Two free genealogy webinars will take place this week covering the topics of census substitutes and tax lists.

The Illinois State Genealogical Society will present “Census Substitutes for the In-Between Years” on Tuesday, Aug. 8 at 9 p.m. The federal census gives us wonderful clues for our research, but the ten years between each census is a long time. This presentation will discuss records that can be used to fill in the gap and add more points to your ancestor’s timeline.

Legacy Family Tree Webinars will present “Using Tax Lists for Genealogy” on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 8 p.m. Tax lists of all kinds, whether head taxes or taxes on real estate or personal property, are a rich source of data on families and individuals often recorded nowhere else.
