New databases about Brooklyn Naval Hospital available online

New databases have recently been added to the German Genealogy Group website.

Brooklyn Naval Hospital Register of Deaths and of Burial Plots covers the years 1831 to 1894. The database contains a person’s name, age, rank, date of death, where died, where buried and miscellaneous remarks. The Register is located at the New York City office of the National Archives but it does not contain any additional information from that shown in the database.

Also recently added is the Brooklyn Naval Hospital Register of Armed Forces personnel whose remains were brought from Europe, 1918 to 1922. This database is an index to a register of Armed Forces personnel whose remains were brought to the Brooklyn Navy Yard hospital from Europe. It gives the date of death, cause of death and identified the next of kin. Additional information that may be found includes: where the remains and personal effects were shipped, what ship the person was on, and date the injury occurred if different from the date of death.

These records can be viewed onsite at the New York City office of the National Archives or scans can be requested for a fee. For more information, contact the National Archives at 212-401-1620 or email at newyorkarchives@nara.gov.

To view either of these databases go to: www.germangenealogygroup.com and then select Databases from the left side of the page. Under Databases select Death Records.
