Irish Family History Forum to meet this Saturday

The Irish Family History Forum will meet this Saturday, April 15, at the Bethpage Public Library.

There will be a slightly different format at this month’s meeting. At 10 a.m. the documentary
“The Irish Catskills: Dancing at the Crossroads” will be shown. This film tells the story of the Irish Catskills, a vacation spot that has been visited by Irish and Irish Americans for over 100 years.

At 11 a.m. there will be a refreshment break and an “Ask the Experts” panel.

At 11:45 a.m. this month’s program will be “Searching the GGG Indexes” by Don Eckerle. For more than a decade, volunteers have helped digitize indexes to databases for millions of New York City and Long Island records, including births, deaths, marriages, and naturalizations. These indexes are available for free on the websites of the German Genealogy Group and the Italian Genealogical Group. Don Eckerle, who has been one of the movers and shakers guiding this project, will describe many of these databases and give hints on searching them successfully.
