Two local genealogy groups to meet this week

The German Genealogy Group will meet on Thursday, March 2 at the V.F.W. in Hicksville. There will be Orientation at 7 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.

This month’s program will be “Exploring Long Island’s Jewish Heritage” led by Rhoda Miller. Rhoda will explore Long Island’s rich and fascinating Jewish heritage from a historical and genealogical perspective. There will be a local history focus regarding the connection between the German and Jewish communities.

Ms. Miller has been a Certified Genealogist since 1998, specializing in Jewish research and Holocaust studies. Rhoda is a Past President of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island (JGSLI) and continues her leadership as a board member. For more information, go to the club website at:

The Huntington Historical Society will meet on Saturday, March 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the Conklin Barn in Huntington.

This month’s topic will be “Genealogical and Other Resources of the National Archives at New York City.” The presenter will be Dorothy Dougherty, Public Program Director of NARA.
