Genealogy Lock-In to take place April 1

The Patchogue-Medford Public Library will host its annual Genealogy Lock-In on Saturday, April 1 from 1-9 p.m.

This year’s presenter will be Colleen Fitzpatrick. Colleen is a forensic genealogist who consults for major military and civilian organizations. She is the author of three best selling books: “DNA and Genealogy,” “Forensic Genealogy” and “The Dead Horse Investigation: Forensic Photo Analysis for Everyone.”

Her afternoon lectures will be:
“Forensic Genealogy – CSI Meets Roots” – This lecture will spark your imagination to discover new ways of looking at your family mysteries.

“You Will Never Look at Your Old Photos the Same Way Again!” – Every bit of a photograph – the thickness, the edges, the shape and the image – can help you identify it. It’s not what you look at in a photo but how you look at it that counts.

After dinner lectures will be:
“The Database Detective” – Forensic Genealogy has used database mining to solve many mysteries. You may know where to look for information but in this lecture you will find out how to look at it.

“How DNA Can Help with Your Family History” – DNA analysis is only one corner of the research triangle. The others are family geography and family history. Learn you to get the most out of your DNA results.

You must register for this free program. Registration in ongoing. To register, call 631-654-4700 or register online using the library’s event calendar.
