Two local groups to meet this weekend

The Irish Family History Forum will meet this Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Bethpage Public Library.

There will be a Genealogy Tips and Tricks session with Kathy McGee from 10-10:30 a.m. From 10:45-11 a.m. there will an Ask the Experts session.

This month’s speaker will be Philip Sutton who will discuss “Conducting Genealogical Research at the New York Public Library.” Mr. Sutton is a reference librarian at the Milstein Division of U.S. History, Local History and Genealogy. He will discuss NYPL’s genealogy collections with special focus on materials pertaining to Irish genealogy collections.

The Jewish Genealogy Group of Long Island will meet this Sunday, Jan. 22, from 2-4 p.m. at the Y-JCC in Plainview.

This month’s topic will be “Yikhes: Researching Your Roots in New York Public Library’s Jewish Division” presented by librarian Amanda Seigel. Ms. Seigel will describe the division holdings and highlight some of the sources there for genealogical research. Her research specialties include Yiddish language and culture and American Jewish history.
