Two local genealogy groups to meet this week

The German Genealogy Group will meet this Thursday, Feb. 2, at the V.F.W. in Hicksville.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and there is an Orientation program at 7 p.m. The monthly program will begin at 7:30 p.m. This month’s program will be “Fact, Fiction or Fishtales: Proving Family Stories” presented by Kathy McGee. Family stories are often the foundation of our genealogical research but are these tales fact, fiction or just exaggerations of the truth? This lecture will show you how the presenter found the grains of truth in her family stories and uncovered more fascinating tales then she could have imagined.

Kathy McGee has been tracing her family history for the past 25 years. She presents the Tips and Tricks class before the Irish Family History Forum meetings at the Bethpage Library every month. Kathy has also been a volunteer family history librarian at the Plainview Family History Center for over 20 years and is a Board member and program coordinator for the Genealogy Federation of Long Island.
