Three free webinars scheduled this week

There are three free genealogy webinars taking place this week.

The Illinois Genealogical Society will present “Midwestern Gems: Back Issues of Genealogical, Historical and Sociological Journals” on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 9 p.m. Many years of social history, local/state history, military, and other serials aid in studying migration, land, military, churches, railroads, cemeteries, and other aspects of Midwestern ancestry. A plethora of FREE specialized finding aids, print and online access, and indexes exist. A journal might not mention a specific ancestor but may tell the story of a battle, town disturbance, or dispute in which an ancestor took part or observed.

Legacy Family Tree Webinars will present “Time and Place – Using Genealogy’s Cross-Hairs” on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. The more that beginning genealogists put themselves in the “time and place” of the ancestor for whom they are searching, the better the chances that they will do the most thorough search of all available records. See how learning an area’s history will help your family history.
