German Genealogy Group to meet Thursday

The German Genealogy Group will meet tomorrow, April 7, at the Hicksville V.F.W., 320 South Broadway.

The program, “Researching Opa, a German Immigrant’s Story” presented by Jo Ann Schmidt, will begin at 7:30 p.m. This presentation will include the research that helped to put together an accurate description of the journey from Hannover to New York and the life that followed for Lambert Schmidt. Part of this presentation will include an introduction to the German pastime of the Schutzenfests, which were popular in the US until World War I.

Jo Ann Schmidt has a long history of a passion for family story and relationships. She has been actively involved in genealogy since 2005. She is a retired professor of nursing from Nassau Community College and currently teaches at Adelphi University.

There will be an orientation session at 7 p.m.
