Profile: New York Genealogical & Biographical Society

The New York Genealogical & Biographical Society was founded in 1869 and is the largest genealogical society in the state. It is based in New York City. The society collects material from all across New York State, not just for the boroughs of New York.

Membership cost is $70 for one year for an individual or $120 for two years for an individual. NYG&B members receive:

**A subscription to The Record, which has been published quarterly since 1870. The Record features compiled genealogies, solutions to problems, unique source material, and book reviews.
**A subscription to The New York Researcher, a quarterly review which features instructive articles on genealogical research techniques and resources; website news; and book reviews.

–Special collections, such as the 1855 New York State Census for Manhattan’s 17th Ward; the American Bible Society Collection; digital versions of books published by the NYG&B; more than a dozen volumes in the WPA Historical Records Survey series; cemetery transcriptions and religious records.
**Access to the NYG&B’s Mini-Search Service exclusively for members: submit a specific request for a photocopy of a document or text that you have identified in the collections of a growing list of New York repositories.
**A subscription to the NYG&B’s monthly eNews. The eNews informs you of upcoming events and provides time-sensitive information. Email addresses are never shared or disclosed.
