Tours of Municipal Archives offered in the Fall

NYG&B

Two Repository Tours to the Municipal Archives in Manhattan will be offered in the Fall by the New York Genealogical and Biographic Society.

Municipal Archives Tour #1: Basic Orientation
September 12 – 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Marcia Kirk, the new Director of the Municipal Archives, will host this basic orientation, focusing on the vital records and fundamental resources held at the Municipal Archives. Following visits to the Visitor Center, the City Hall Library, and the Conservation Lab, participants will spend the majority of time in the Archives Reference Room where they may conduct their own research. This program is a rare chance to research in the Municipal Archives when it is closed to the public, so there is no waiting for work stations or staff attention.

Municipal Archives Tour #2: Beyond the Basics
Oct. 24 – 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Marcia Kirk, the new Director of the Municipal Archives, will host this “beyond the basics” orientation focusing on lesser-known genealogical resources held at the Municipal Archives such as City Cemetery (aka Potter’s Field) records; Bodies in Transit records and Almshouse History of Inmates. Following visits to the Visitor Center, the City Hall Library, and the Conservation Lab, participants will spend the majority of time in the Archives Reference Room where they may conduct their own research.

Cost is $25 for members and $40 for non-members. To register you may call 212-755-8532, ext. 211 or sign up via the online store.
