Albany research trip set for end of October


Registration is now open for The New York Genealogical & Biographical Society’s popular fall research trip to Albany. It is scheduled for October 29 – November 1, 2014.

The New York State Library’s extensive collections include family genealogies, local histories, DAR records, church records, census records, early newspapers on film, and city directories, as well as archives and manuscripts.

The holdings of the New York State Archives include State records relating to military service (War of 1812 through World War I); land records (mostly transactions involving the Colony or State of New York); court records (including colonial wills and early 19th-century civil cases); records of some correctional and custodial institutions; and indexes to vital records (excluding New York City).

The Library and Archives are located in the same building, along with the New York State Museum.

The program fee is $275 for members and $350 for non-members. The fee includes:
*Orientation to the New York State Archives and the New York State Library by staff experts.
*A private consultation with a professional genealogist.
*Access to a professional genealogist for all three days of the program.
*Welcome gathering on Wednesday night.
*Dinner on Thursday night.
*Wine and cheese reception on Friday evening.
*Lunch in the library on Saturday.
