Municipal Archives tour added for July 11

NYG&B

The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society recently announced that due to an ovewewhelming response, a third date has been added to the “Beyond the Basics” tour of the New York City Municpal Archives.

This third tour will take place on July 11 from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Marcia Kirk, the new Director of the Municipal Archives, will host this orientation focusing on lesser-known genealogical resources held at the Municipal Archives such as City Cemetery records, Bodies in Transit records and the Almshouse History of Inmates.

Following visits to the Visitor Center, the City Hall Library, and the Conservation Lab, participants will spend the majority of time in the Archives Reference Room where they may conduct their own research. This is a rare chance to research in the Municipal Archives when it is closed to the public, so there is no waiting for work stations or staff attention.

The cost is $25 for members or $40 for non-members. Space is limited. You can sign up through the online store or contact education@nygbs.org.
